Brazilian Lemonade

Oh lemonade. It screams summertime and is my weakness when the weather gets warm and the sun does that thing that makes me the happiest girl alive. Warms the earth. I don’t do cold, at all. As I get older I have learned to keep my whiny opinions about cold weather to myself because I don’t want to rub off on my children. However, it still makes something deep within me boil and I get passionately angry at the cold, wet months. I’m working on it.

Warm weather seems to be coming a bit earlier this year so it was time for a good ‘ole batch of fresh lemonade. Back in high school I worked at a little place in the 806 called Bahama Bucks. Some of you might have heard of it. It was hands down the best high school job. I fell in love with their lemonades and still get them regularly during the summer time. This little recipe might push those into second place for me!

Brazilian Lemonade….it just sounded like I needed it in my life. AND it comes from some of my favorite girls over at Our Best Bites. I love these girls and their recipes. I’ve made so many of them and am never left disappointed. Let’s get to it. Shall we?

It’s simple really. Limes (I know it’s lemonade but the recipe calls for limes, chill.), water, sugar and sweetened condensed milk. You read that right, sweetened condensed milk. I was hesitant but it took the “lemonade” to the next level.  The girls over at Our Best Bites suggest getting limes with a thin and smooth skin since you are blending the whole lime. Apparently these limes are sweeter.

I recruited my crew to help me with this one and they loved it! Getting in the kitchen with my kiddos is something I’m beginning to really enjoy. Having everything prepped for them to mix all on their own is the way to go. I encourage everyone to get in the kitchen with your kids!

Brazilian Lemonade

Ingredients

  • 4 limes cut pieces
  • 6 cups of water
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 6 tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk

Instructions

  1. Wash your limes thoroughly since you will be blending the entire thing.
  2. Cut into small pieces and set aside.
  3. Dissolve the sugar into the water.
  4. Place half of the limes and sugar water into the blender.
  5. Pulse 5-6 times
  6. Strain into a large pitcher.
  7. Pulse the remaining limes and water then strain into the pitcher.
  8. Mix in the sweetened condensed milk.
  9. Stir and serve over ice.

Notes

If you want yours to be sweeter you can add more sugar water or sweetened condensed milk. Our Best Bites says this doesn't keep well so they don't suggest making it in advance. We finished ours the next day and it was a bit more tart but still enjoyable! They also suggest planning on at least 1 1/2 servings per person.
